History
The Conroe Family Medicine Residency Program was formed in 1979 as the Montgomery County Medical Education Foundation by a group of physicians who were interested in developing and establishing a Family Medicine residency program in Montgomery County. Our first three residents graduated in June 1985.
Affiliated with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston from 1983-1994 and with the University of Texas Medical Branch from 1994-2000, the program is now sponsored by Conroe Medical Education Foundation and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program has been quite successful, and of note our program was reviewed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in 2006 and was awarded the status of continued full accreditation for four years. This, along with our 100% pass rate on the Board Certification Examination offered by the American Board of Family Medicine, is an outstanding statement about the quality of training our residents receive.
Our Mission
Conroe Family Medicine Residency is dedicated to teaching the full spectrum of family medicine and procedural skills. We strive to provide an education which our graduates have said makes them feel confident when they start practice. We strive to provide high quality, high tech and compassionate care.
Our mission is:
- To train family physicians who will pursue excellence in providing compassionate patient care.
- To train well-qualified family physicians, thus increasing the supply of practitioners available to meet the health care needs in Texas and the United States;
- To provide the medical student with role models so as to encourage interest in family medicine;
- To stimulate intellectual pursuit and research by faculty, residents and family physicians in practice;
- To provide continuing medical education for the graduates of this program and other physicians in private practice.
Out look for the future
We are excited about our future. We enjoy tremendous support from Conroe Regional Medical Center, from Conroe Medical Education Foundation, from Lone Star Family Health Center, as well as from our community. The Program’s independent sponsorship provides greater local control, both educationally and financially, and provides many opportunities for further Program development. For instance, we are very proud of our Family Medicine Center, Lone Star Family Health Center, which serves as home to the Residency.
Our Center received a federal grant which allows us to offer expanded services as a Federally Qualified Health Center. Our expanded services include a pharmacy, dental care, behavioral sciences, alcohol and drug counseling, diabetes education, family planning services, and an after hours clinic that provides moonlighting opportunities to our residents. Other grant support we have received include Title V, X, XX for Family Planning as well as a Breast and Cervical Cancer Detection grant. In addition, in July 2006 we accepted our first sports medicine fellow in our fully accredited Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. We are enthusiastic about our future.
